Talking about Global Warming.

I´d like to share with you some of the videos and presentations I posted on the English blog  some years ago, which are related to Global Warming and are uptodate, as well as others from several media, that are more recent. The following video, which is entitled Our Future is narrated by Morgan Freeman and it´s worth seeing. "It describes what the world looks like now, because of Greenhouse Gases. Later, it begins to describe what the planet can look like if we star using renewable energy." Just think about it.

Ana Isabel Ferreirós Rey.

In this segment of our Global Warming project, we created definitions to define the causes and effects that our students had brainstormed earlier in the year. With dramatic pictures of Global Warming effects, we were able to show the severity of climate change.

Global warming definitions_clil_ceip_pl_riadevigo_2017 from riaenglish

New Orleans: A City Under Water pt. I, II & III
This was the capstone presentation for our Global Warming project. We had the idea to compare two cities in the world. One city that the students were familiar with, Vigo, and another city of the same size that our auxiliar de conversación was familiar with, New Orleans.
New Orleans was the site of the 2004 hurricane Katrina natural disaster. The entire city is, and was, built under sea level. So, with a little bit of strong wind and rain, the city itself could be flooded very easily.
This presentation goes through the history and geography of the city, so that the students can more easily relate to the effects of Global Warming. At the very end of the geography section there are two really cool maps that use GIS (Geographic Information Systems) to measure what would happen if the global temperature increased and the sea-level rises. You should definitly check out the maps!

We have already published this presentation in 2017, but it is also current nowdays.

Interview Questions from Héctor, 5º

When did you leave Spain? I left Spain at the end of March and have been home in California since
then!

Who are you with? I’m with my family--my dad, my mom, my brother JJ, and my dog Cosby.

Where did you take the photo in the learning English blog with your recipe? The photo in the snow?
I took the photo by Lake Tahoe, which is in the mountains between California and Nevada.

Does it still snow there? Most of the snow is gone, but it might snow again this Tuesday!

Do you go out of your home any days? I leave my house to run and walk, and also to go to the
supermarket. In California, we are still under ‘shelter in place’, so we can’t go to restaurants or to the cinema yet.

What do you usually do these days? I am learning to knit and to play the ukulele! I also cook and read
a lot.

Do you live in a house or in an apartment? I live in my parents’ house.

Do you think about returning to Vigo? Yes, I would love to return to Vigo! I hope that I will be able to
visit next year!!

Hi Héctor, thanks for the note and the interview questions. Of course I remember you and your
partners, and I miss you too!

Interview Questions from Enzo

time. I miss you all!

What is your favorite book? Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is one of my favourite books, I have
read it many times!

Do you have a pet? I have a dog. He is very cute, his name is Cosby, and he’s a cocker spaniel.

Enzo, thanks for the picture of your pets, I loved it! You’re so lucky to have three different types of pets. Your russian turtle is especially amazing!

Interview Questions from Xiana

How old are you? I am 27 years old.

Do you have a middle name? Yes, my middle name is ‘Joy’ :)

What’s your favorite color? Purple! Especially dark purple.

Interview Questions from Rita

My first questions are the following ones:

Were you afraid these days? I think everyone has been a little worried about COVID19.
It’s had a large impact on what we can and can’t do.

Did you have any problems going back to your country? There were fewer flights available,
but once I found one, getting back was a lot easier than I had expected!

Do you think American people are living this situation in a different way than Spanish people?
Why? I think it depends on the area. People in New York City are probably living in a situation
that’s similar to what Spaniards experienced. NYC and Spain both had high infection rates and
people weren’t able to go outside frequently. But people in other areas of the US have been
able to have more freedom of movement either because the infection rate is lower or because
they have different policies.

enjoy the Harry Potter books.

I remember that you liked cooking:

Did you enjoy Spanish food? Spanish food is delicious! I especially love Spanish tortillas. Yum!

What, in your opinion, are the most important differences between Spanish and American food? I think American food has a lot more meat than Spanish food. And Spanish food is more traditional than American food.

Have you ever travelled to another country? Did you like its food? I have travelled to several
countries, and every one has had delicious food. I especially like to try desserts from different countries!

I love music and I think you liked it too:

Which are your favorite bands or singers? I like Shawn Mendes, Meghan Trainor,
Mumford & Sons, and Taylor Swift.

Do you play any musical instruments? In school I learned the flute, but now I’m learning to play
the ukulele!

Have you heard of Galician bagpipes? Do you have any traditional instruments in California?
