Climate Change Videos.

We have begun a new project relating to Global Warming. We started this week off by watching a video called "Our Future", narrated by Morgan Freeman. It describes what the world looks like now, because of Greenhouse Gases. Later, it begins to describe what the planet can look like if we star using renewable energy.

We also watched "Global Warming for kids" that, unlike its title suggests, is a pretty advanced video very worthy for our students. It talks about the gases and chemical structure of Greenhouse gases. It also defines important definitions related to Climate Change.

The Chocolate Buckeyes 2

Today we have made some Chocolate Buckeyes in the English lesson with Grade 3 A and Grade 3 B students It was fun and the students enjoyed the activity. Next week we will continue the task with Grade 4 students. Here is a picture of the Chocolate Buckeyes the students made. Stay tuned, since there will be more pictures to come...!!!

The Chocolate Buckeyes. 1.

We have just began a new task, which is related to Autumn tree nuts. We have discovered that there is a link between cultures that was introduced during Caleb´s presentation. Apparently, in Ohio they celebrate the chestnut just like we do here in Spain. For Caleb it is called “the Buckeye”, for us it is called the “castaña” or chestnut, that is eating in Fall and specially during the “Magosto Festival”. However, in Ohio, the buckeye is a poisonous chestnut, that cannot be eaten.
The chocolate buckeye was made to look like a chestnut, but it isn´t made with the chestnut. Therefore, the chocolate buckeye doesn´t taste like one.
In the following weeks, we will be creating these tasty treats with our 3rd. and 4th. grade students. In the meantime, here are some links to how to make them.

Welcome to Caleb Morgan, our new American Assistant teacher...!!!

Welcome to the new school year...!!! For the next eight months, we have the opportunity to work with our new Assistant Teacher Caleb Morgan from Ohio, USA. We´ll be envolved in so many CLIL amazing Projects, both in English and in the Art lessons. We are excited to work with him and share cultural experiences with him. Acting emotions. Portfolio Activity. Niamh Sharkey Ravenous Beast Adaptation for the Pre - School Students´plays. You Tube videos.

The 5 year old class' production of The Ravenous Beast has been a catalyst to learning English for students of such a young age. Through learning, practicing, and presenting the play to both students at Ria de Vigo and also to CEIP FRIÁN TEIS through Vigo Intertheatre School Events, students have learned valuable English vocabulary and sentence structures as well as enhanced their pronunciation and gained confidence speaking. Through the production of the Ravenous Beast, students have learned to express themselves and their emotions in English. They have gained confidence public speaking in English in front of an audience, which is a skill that is truly essential in the development and use of the English language throughout each student's educational career. They have learned to apply what they are learning of the world around them, and have learned to see themselves as capable leaders in an international, multilingual world.
I´d like to Thank the students´families for their great collaboration, since they have made the costumes for the plays. Also Thank you to the students´tutor Emma and to our Assistant teacher Carolyn Luby for their great help...!!!

Investigating and analysing Literature through description and character identification. Presentation.

The grade 5 literature project has introduced, developed, and further cultivated many skills useful to students both in the academic setting and in the world at large. Students have been introduced to classic literary texts from various English speaking countries, and were encouraged to analyze the personality characteristics and emotions expressed by each character. This assignment has challenged students to adapt a different perspective of the world through the reading of literature and the perspectives of main characters, while at the same time encouraging their production in English through self reflection and character identification. This literary project has not only furthered students development in English and increased confidence with the language, but it has also better prepared them for success in the ever more globalized world of the future.

Dealing with EMOTIONS...GO AWAY BIG GREEN MONSTER...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Recently in English class, the students have been learning emotions, parts of the face, and colors through a project called “Go Away Big Green Monster”.  This project is designed to supplement the long term project of emotions that the students have been working on throughout the year in the library, as well as review and reinforce important vocabulary in English. Each student has constructed their own monster; naming each part of the face and choosing a color for each feature. Each student has created a unique monster for themselves. Now, they are focusing on how to describe their monster and the characteristics and features that it has. Coming up soon we will share a video of the recordings of students presenting their monsters, we hope you will click and watch!
